STATESBORO, GA- North Carolina's men's golf team fired a final round 298 to finish at 891 and in 14th place at this weekend's Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational. The Georgia Bulldogs successfully defended their title after a final round 287, to leave them with a final team total of 854. Tournament host Georgia Southern finished four shots back at 858, while Clemson finished in third at 859. Augusta State fired the lowest team score of the day with a 283 to finish in fourth place at 867, while Florida closeed out the top five at 870.
Individually, Georgia's Nick Cassini held off fellow Bulldog Erik Compton for a one shot victory at six-under-par 210. Compton carded a final round 69 to finish at 5-under-par 211. Georgia's Bryant Odom, Clemson's D.J. Trahan, Florida's Bubba Dickerson, and East Tennessee State's Chris Wisler all tied for third place at four-under-par 212.
Dustin Bray led the Tar Heels finishing the weekend tied with three other golfers in 11th place at one-under-par 215. Ramon Bescansa shot a final round 69 to conclude the event in a tie for 30th place at four-over-par 220, while Rob Simmons finished in a tie for 45th place at seven-over-par 223. Richard Treis ended Sunday tied for 72nd place at 233, and Bob Cherry rounded out the Heels in 77th place at 242.
The Invitational was played at the Forest Heights Country Club which features a par 72 6,945 yard layout The tournament field contained 10 of the nation's top 20 teams and 15 of the top 20 individual players.
