CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's lacrosse team will hope to receive a favorable nod from the NCAA Lacrosse Committee next Sunday when bids are announced at 8 p.m.
Carolina became eligible for the tournament last Thursday with a 27-7 win over Pfeiffer at Henry Stadium. That win evened Carolina's record at 6-6 and with the .500 record the Tar Heels became eligible for tournament play. Carolina earned an NCAA Tournament bid in 1998 with a .500 mark when the Tar Heels finished 7-7. That was UNC's only tournament appearance since 1996.
The selection show next Sunday will be shown live on Comcast Sports Net, formerly Home Team Sports.
Twelve teams will be named to the tournament field. Four conference champions have already clinched bids. They are Georgetown in the ECAC, Bucknell in the Patriot League, Princeton in the Ivy League and Notre Dame in the Great Western Lacrosse League. The winner of the America East Tournament next weekend will receive a tournament bid. The remaining seven bids will be given out at-large.
