Men's Golf In 1st After Opening Round Of The Seminole

TALLAHASSEE, FL. -- The University of North Carolina men's golf team shot a team total 286 two-under-par and finished the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate in sole possession of first and a five stroke lead over second place College of Charleston. The Tar Heels had five players place in the top fifteen. Junior Bob Cherry fired an opening round score of 34-34 for a four-under-par 68 which landed him in a tie for second place with the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Graeme McDowell. Leading the event in individual scoring is Leif Olson of Duke who shot a five-under-par-67. Steve Marino of Virginia comes in at fourth with a 69 while there is a five way tie for fifth.
The annual Seminole Intercollegiate is being played on the par 72, 6,847-yard Golden Eagle Course. The second round of the tournament is schedule for Monday afternoon while the third and final round is set to tee off on Tuesday morning.
