UNC Men's Lacrosse Adds Two More Recruits

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program has announced that two more outstanding prospects will be joining the Tar Heel program next fall. The additional recruits were announced by second-year University of North Carolina head coach John Haus Tuesday.
This additions include midfielder Ryan Tolson of Baltimore, Md. and defenseman Hayward Howard of Baltimore, Md.
Hayward Howard will be a 2002 alumnus of St. Pauls School where he made the Honor Roll as a sophomore, junior and senior. He is truly an all-around athlete as he has played football, basketball and lacrosse as a prepster. He has played three years of varsity lacrosse and one year of junior varsity lacrosse. Among his lacrosse honors are two-time Loch Raven All-Star, two-time Baltimore All-Star (Vail Team) and Top 205 All-Star. Born in New Orleans, he is the son of Rand and Chip Mason and has a brother, Pike Howard, and a sister, Morgan Mason. Hayward played two-years of junior varsity football (captain as a sophomore) and two years of varsity football. He played junior varsity basketball for three years (captain as junior) and was the two-time spirit award winner in basketball. At St. Pauls he is active as a St. Pauls Singer, head of the Spirit Council, sports editor of the yearbook and a member of Environmental Awareness.
Midfielder Tolson will graduate this spring from Loyola High School. Born April 4, 1984, Tolson is a 6-2, 195-pounder who has been a three-year varsity lacrosse player for the Dons. A 2000 and 2001 Top 205 All-Star, Tolson was a member of Loyola's 2001 MIAA 'A' Conference championship squad. The captain of the 2002 Loyola team, he was named to the all-star team in 2000 and 2001 at the Loch Raven Summer League and to the all-star team at the 2001 Champ Camp at Johns Hopkins. Tolson was also a 2001 Maryland Bay state all-star team member. Besides lacrosse, he also has started for two years in soccer as a sweeper. He was the 2001 team captain and won the MVP award on the team last fall. Tolson volunteers at the St. Ignatius Homeless Shelter and he serves as a St. Ignatius summer camp counselor.
