Jed Prossner Named Hardee's Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week

Jed Prossner had four goals and five assists as well as 11 ground balls in two games as the men's lacrosse team recorded wins over Air Force 14-5 on April 13 and UMBC 11-5 on April 16. Prossner has been named the Hardee's Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts. The senior attackman from Easton, Md., had three goals and three assists in the win over UMBC to match his season high for points in a game with six. His nine ground balls in that match were a career high. His efforts last week moved him into third place in career goal scoring at UNC with 110 and into eighth place in career points with 167.

Ann Laney posted her best performance of the year when she finished in sixth place at the ACC Women's Golf Championship. She fired an even par 72 in the final round preceded by a 76 in the first round and a 79 in the second round for an 11-over 227 total. The 54-hole event was played at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., which features a par 72, 6,318-yard layout. Laney, who hails from Charlotte, is no stranger to Carmel as her family is a member of that course. Laney was the low Tar Heel in the tournament as Carolina finished in seventh place with a 963 total after posting rounds of 336-327-310.
MEN'S TRACK
Vikas Gowda

Gowda won both the discus and the shot put at this weekend's Carolina Fast Times meet in Chapel Hill. Gowda, who currently leads the nation in the discus by more than five meters, won the event with a mark of 197 feet, 2 inches. His winning throw in the shot put was 59-2 1/4
WOMEN'S TRACK

Donohue won the women's 800-meter run at this weekend's Carolina Fast Times meet in Chapel Hill. Her time of 2:08.41 is the fastest in the ACC this season, and ranks her among the top ten in the East Region.
ROWING
Second varsity eight
UNC's second varsity eight won its event at Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Sunday to stay undefeated on the season. The Tar Heels finished in a time of 7:10.40, ahead of Louisville (7:12.10); Kansas State (7:16.33); Central Florida (7:21.26); Purdue (7:24.77); Dayton (7:36.13) and George Mason (7:46.61)
Racing in the second varsity eight were coxswain Regina Elwell, Christina Payne, Laura Rock, Beth Robinson, Emily Dondero, Lucy Barrios, Christin Cotten, Clara Leigh and Emily Glunz.
