Five Future Tar Heels Named To Under Armour All-America Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five future members of the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program have been named to the list of 44 elite high school men's lacrosse seniors to be named to the 2011 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Team. These future Tar Heels will compete in the sixth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic which will take place on Saturday, July 2 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
Three future Tar Heels will play on the North Team at the Under Armour All-America Classic while two will compete for the South Team.
On the North Team will be attackman Jimmy Bitter of Stowe, Vermont. Bitter is a 2011 alumnus of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass. Midfielder Walker Chafee will also play for the North. He hails from Little Compton, R.I. and prepped at the Salisbury School in Connecticut. The third future Tar Heel on the North Team is defenseman Brian Sullivan of Buffalo, N.Y. Sullivan graduated from Bishop Timon St. Jude High School.
Representing the Tar Heel program on the South Team will be defenseman Ryan Kilpatrick of Wester Chester, Pa. Kilpatrick attended Salesianum High School. The other Tar Heel on the South team is attackman Joey Sankey of Warminster, Pa. Sankey is a graduate of Penn Charter School in 2011.
North Carolina has the second most recruits playing in the game with five. Virginia and Syracuse also have five players each just behind Maryland's total of six. Johns Hopkins and Harvard have four each, Duke three, Navy and Notre Dame two apiece and Princeton, Villanova, Massachusetts, Yale, Albany, Loyola, Georgetown and Penn State one selection each.
A full weekend of events is scheduled, highlighted by the All-America boys showcase live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. and the girls' game at 4 p.m. on Saturday. For the first time the weekend will include a professional men's exhibition game and a concert. The LXM PRO Showcase will be held between the girls' and boys' games at 6 p.m., and the evening will conclude with a performance by hip-hop artist and D.C. native Wale.
The North boys will be coached by Bill Cherry (Manhasset HS; Manhasset, NY), while the South boys squad will be coached by Rick Brocato (St. Paul's School; Brooklandvale, Md.).
The Underclass tournament associated with the event expanded this year to include South and West regions for the first time. These regions will compete against teams from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Upstate NY and Washington, D.C. The three-day Underclass tournament (July 1 - 3) culminates Sunday with the girls' and boys' finals at 3:30 p.m. on the fields surrounding Unitas Stadium.
