Four Tar Heels Set For U19 World Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Four members of the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will begin play Thursday in the 2012 Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships in Turku, Finland. Carolina has representatives on Team USA and Team Canada, both of which are playing in the Blue Division.
The U.S. side will be seeking its seven successive U19 World Championship title.
Rising sophomore midfielder Chad Tutton of Courtice, Ontario will be a member of Team Canada, which opens play against the U.S. Team on July 14 at 7 p.m. (July 15 at 2 a.m. Eastern Time). Midfielder Brent Armstrong of Falls Church, Va., midfielder Mike Tagliaferri of Danville, Calif., and midfielder Steve Pontrello of Marlton, N.J., are all members of Team USA and incoming freshmen at UNC. The U.S. Team will open against Australia on July 13 at 7 p.m. (July 14 at 2 a.m. Eastern Time) before meeting Canada the following day.
Other teams in the Blue Division are the Iroquois Nationals, England and Australia. Round robin play ends on July 17 with medal round play commencing the following day. Other nations competing include Germany, Wales, Finland and the Czech Republic in the Red Division and Scotland, Korea and the Netherlands in the Yellow Division.
