Holman Leads USA Into World Championship Semifinal

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. - The United States men's lacrosse National Team went 5-0 in group play at the 2014 FIL World Championships behind outstanding play from UNC alumnus Marcu Holman.
With wins over Canada, Australia, Japan, England and the Iroquois Nationals, the USA is the No. 1 seed in the championship bracket and will play its semifinal game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time (6:30 p.m. EDT). The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
Play in games on Wednesday night will determine the two teams that advance to play No. 2 seed Canada and No. 1 seed USA on Thursday in the semifinals. The winner of Scotland and the Iroquois Nationals will play Canada Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Mountain Time. The winner of the Israel vs. Australia game will play the USA at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time Thursday.
The championship game is slated for Saturday at 7 p.m. MDT (9 p.m. EDT) and will be nationally televised on ESPNU and Watch ESPN.
As the USA went 5-0 in group play, Marcus Holman started two games. He had 8 goals and 4 assists in the five games. He took 21 shots and had 10 ground balls.
He did not score in the opener against Canada, a 10-7 USA win but found the scoreboard in the four succeeding games. He had three goals and an assist as the U.S. beat Australia 16-7. He had a goal and an assist in a 21-3 win over Japan. He followed that up with a second hat trick of the tournament to go with five ground balls as the Americans beat England 20-1 on Monday. On Tuesday, he had a goal, two assists and four ground balls in an 18-5 victory for Team USA over the Iroquois Nationals.
