April 22, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Five members of the 2015 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team were named Wednesday to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team. UNC's five selections are the most for the Tar Heels since the 1993 team earned seven All-ACC accolades.
Senior attackman Joey Sankey of Warminster, Pa., was named All-ACC for the third year in a row. Senior attackman Jimmy Bitter of Stowe, Vt., and senior midfielder Chad Tutton of Courtice, Ontario were tapped for the second straight year. Senior close defenseman Jake Bailey (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior long-stick midfielder Ryan Kilpatrick (West Chester, Pa.) earned honors for the first time.
Sankey has 26 goals and 34 assists in 2015. He is second on the team in assists and points (60). He has scored three game-winners and in the win over Syracuse he passed Marcus Holman as Carolina's all-time leading scorer. Sankey is third all-time in assists.
Jimmy Bitter leads Carolina in points and assists with 69 and 35, respectively. He has also scored 34 goals and he needs five goals to tie the school record for goals in a career at 128 held by Bert Fett. Bitter currently ranks second in all-time goals at UNC. He is fourth all-time in points in UNC history.
Chad Tutton has 31 goals and 36 points this season. He has 102 career goals and against Notre Dame became the 12th Tar Heel to break the century in career goals. He leads UNC with seven man-up goals this season.
Jake Bailey has started 28 games in a row at close defense. This season he has 39 ground balls, the most among UNC defensemen, and 15 caused turnovers, the second highest number on the squad. Coming into this season he had a career total of 43 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
Ryan Kilpatrick is considered one of the nation's top long-stick middies. He has played in 62 games in his career, missing only one. This season he has 33 ground balls and he has caused 10 turnovers. He has three goals and one assist. Earlier this year he passed the century in ground balls and now 113 in his career to go along with 34 caused turnovers.
