Boswell Wins Second Event At Dowd Invitational
February 5, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
DURHAM, N.C. - University of North Carolina junior Madison Boswell won her second event in two days as the 2017 Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational continued at Duke's Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.
It was another fast day of swimming for all schools with entries in the event, which honors Tar Heel alumna and 1976 Olympian Janis Hape Dowd. After the water emergency in Orange County, N.C. forced the university to close at 1 p.m. Friday, the rest of this weekend's competition was switched to Duke.
Boswell, a Richmond, Va., junior won the 400-yard individual medley Saturday night in a time of 4:14.44, just off her career best time of 4:13.94. On Friday, she won the 200-yard individual medley.
Tar Heel senior Josh Beals, of Attleboro, Mass., finished fourth in the men's 400-yard individual medley on Saturday. His time of 3:54.50 was just off his career best time of 3:54.15.
In the women's 100-yard butterfly, two Tar Heels posted career best times. Senior Katie McKay of Holmdel, N.J., finished third in the event with a time of 54.86. Her previous personal best was 55.66. Boswell, swimming her second event in a row, placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 55.38, more than a second faster than her previous personal top time of 56.44.
Action in the Dowd Invitational concludes with two sessions on Sunday - a preliminary session at 10 a.m. and a finals session at 4:45 p.m.
