Crystal Dunn Named NWSL Player of the Week

North Carolina Courage forward earns weekly award.
CHICAGO (May 22, 2018) - North Carolina Courage Forward Crystal Dunn was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 8 of the 2018 NWSL season. Dunn was a four-year All-America at the University of North Carolina, graduating in 2013. Dunn led the Tar Heels to the 2012 NCAA title and has played in the NWSL and in England since her graduation.
Dunn, 25, scored the opening goal of the match to help the Courage earn a 2-1 victory over Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ. With the win, North Carolina improved to 7-0-2 and tied the NWSL record for the best nine-game start to a season since the 2014 Seattle Reign FC.
The New Hyde Park, NY native finished a perfectly placed cross from Jessica McDonald for the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. It all started with Debinha, who forced a turnover in midfield, and found McDonald open on the right wing. (Watch highlights)
The goal for the U.S. international was her fourth of the year and she is now tied for second in goals in the NWSL.
The University of North Carolina product played all 90 minutes and finished with four chances created and 62 touches in the game, according to Opta.
It is the seventh time Dunn has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week and the fourth time a member of Courage has won the award. She is now the all-time leader for the most NWSL Player of the Week awards.
The North Carolina Courage will return to action Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET against the Orlando Pride at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
