Tar Heels To Visit Wolfpack On Tuesday Night

GAME 15 NOTEBOOK
• Carolina visits NC State for its second ACC game of the season. The Tar Heels won at Pitt, 85-60, on Saturday to open league play. This season marks the 11th time overall and second time in three seasons the Tar Heels are starting ACC play with two road games (1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1984, 1998, 2003 and 2017). Two years ago, the Tar Heels lost at Georgia Tech, then won in overtime at Clemson en route to winning the 2017 NCAA title. UNC has won both road games six times, split twice and lost both twice.
• Carolina has won seven straight games in PNC Arena (five in a row over NC State and 2016 NCAA Tournament wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Providence). The Tar Heels are 15-4 against the Wolfpack in PNC Arena and 19-4 overall (including two games apiece in the 2008 and 2016 NCAA Tournaments).
• UNC has won at NC State 13 times under Roy Williams. The Wolfpack has won in Chapel Hill 13 times since 1954.
• The Tar Heels have scored 91 or more points in each of the last four games against NC State.
• Carolina has won the ACC regular-season title a record 31 times. Duke (19) and Virginia (8) are second and third.
• The Tar Heels have played (Gonzaga and Michigan) and will play (Duke and Virginia) four of the five teams ahead of them in KenPom's overall rankings.
• Carolina has won a record 684 regular-season games in ACC play. Duke is second with 637. No other school has won 500 or more.
• The Tar Heels' average regular-season ACC finish under Roy Williams is 2.5, the best in the ACC in the last 15 years (full chart on page 14). UNC has won the regular season eight times under Williams, four more than any school and five more than any coach in those 15 years.
• Williams has the second-highest winning percentage all-time in ACC road games at .630 (80-47). Vic Bubas went 46-23 (.667) at Duke from 1960-69.
• Williams is third in winning percentage in ACC regular-season games at .715 (181-72). Vic Bubas (.768) and Dean Smith (.728) are the only coaches with a higher percentage.
UNC-NC STATE SERIES
• The Tar Heels lead the series, 156-78, winning 28 of the last 32 and 45 of the last 56 games against the Wolfpack.
• NC State beat the Tar Heels in overtime, 95-91, in Chapel Hill on 1/27/18. Carolina returned the favor by beating the Pack on its home floor, 96-89, on 2/10/18.
• Roy Williams is 33-4 as a head coach against NC State, including a 5-0 record at Kansas and a 28-4 mark at Carolina.Â
• Carolina is 63-45 against NC State in Raleigh, including 15-4 in PNC Arena.
• Carolina has won five in a row over NC State in PNC Arena.
• Carolina is 19-4 overall in PNC Arena, including a pair of NCAA first and second round wins in 2008 and 2016 en route to Final Four appearances.
• Carolina has scored 80 or more points in nine of its last 10 games vs. NC State.

• Carolina shot 78.1 percent in the second half, its highest percentage in a half in the Williams era and highest since shooting 78.9 percent on Jan. 8, 2000 (also in the second half against NC State).
• Carolina scored 61 second-half points, its highest total last season and most since it scored 65 in the second half at Florida State on 1/4/2016.
• NC State went on a 19-0 run over a 6:45 span in the first half. UNC was leading 28-18 before the Pack scored the next 19 points to lead 37-28 with 3:45 to play in the half. UNC countered with a 7-0 run to close the half trailing by two points.
• Carolina out-scored the Pack 22-7 on second-chance points. State scored 22 second-chance points in its win on 1/27.
• Carolina scored 60 points in the paint, including 40 of the 61 points in the second half.Â
• Maye scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. The 33 points equaled the fifth most by a Tar Heel vs. NC State and the 17 rebounds tied the second highest total, one shy of Billy Cunningham's 18 in 1965.
• Maye made 15 field goals (in 22 attempts). He became the first Tar Heel to make 15 field goals in a game in the Williams era (previous was 14 by Brice Johnson at Florida State on 1/4/2016).
• Maye scored 27 points in the second half, the most since Johnson had 28 in the second half at FSU.
• Kenny Williams and Theo Pinson combined for zero points in the first half and 22 (11 apiece) in the second.
• Williams made two second-half threes, including one with 1:13 to play that gave UNC an 88-83 lead.

• The overtime loss ended a 15-game win streak at home against ACC opponents, a 16-game streak when scoring 90 or more points and a 20-game streak when leading at the half.
• It was just the sixth time in 203 games under Williams the Tar Heel shot 50 percent from the floor in a loss.
• Carolina shot a season-low 55.0 percent from the free throw line. The Tar Heels were 11 of 20, including 9 of 17 in the second half and overtime.
• NC State's Allerik Freeman became the first UNC opponent to make 7 of 7 from three-point range.Â
• NC State made 15 three-pointers, scored 22 second-chance points and 22 points off turnovers.Â
• Maye led all scorers with 31 points and added 11 rebounds. Theo Pinson scored a then-career-high 22 points.
MISCELLANEOUSÂ
• Senior forward Luke Maye become the third Tar Heel with 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 80 or more three-point field goals. He accomplished that when he grabbed 11 rebounds in the win at Pitt.
• Maye enters the NC State game with 1,058 points, 704 rebounds and 84 threes. The other two Tar Heels to reach each of those figures we Ademola Okulaja (1,254/890/143 from 1995-99) and Jason Capel (1,447/807/164 from 1998-2002).
• Maye has 144 more career rebounds and six double-doubles than any other active player in the ACC.Â
• Carolina is fourth in the nation in assists and rebounds per game, fifth in scoring nd sixth in rebound margin.
• Carolina has finished in the top 10 in the nation in rebound margin in nine of Roy Williams' first 15 seasons at UNC, including No. 1 in the country in 2008, 2012 and 2017. The Tar Heels have finished ninth, ninth, first and third in the nation in the last four years.
• The Tar Heels are averaging 19.7 assists per game, most in a season since 1990-91 (20.0 per game).
• The Tar Heels have finished in the top six in the country in assists per game 11 times under Williams, including secondl, fourth, fourth and tied for fourth in the last four seasons.
