Halpin and Pitcairn Earn Academic Honors From NFHCA

Freshmen Cassie Halpin and Abby Pitcairn have been honored as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA 2018 Division I Scholars of Distinction, as announced Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The award goes to field hockey student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or better through the fall 2018 semester.

Both Halpin and Pitcairn are biology majors. Halpin is a goalkeeper from Mohegan Lake, N.Y., and Pitcairn is a midfielder from Pittsburgh, Pa.

The two were among 14 Tar Heels named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, announced last week.
Â
As a squad, UNC was recognized with a NFHCA National Academic Team Award for having a team GPA above 3.0.

The 2018 Tar Heels posted the best semester team GPA in program history – 3.36 in the fall semester – while winning NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference titles with a perfect 23-0 season.
