Down-Jenkins Named ACC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Senior diver Anton Down-Jenkins shared Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and joined four other Tar Heels on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Teams for swimming and diving, as announced on Thursday by the league.
Sophie Lindner and Ellie VanNote earned the All-ACC Academic honor from the women's team, and Alex Hart and Boyd Poelke joined Down-Jenkins on the men's team.
Down-Jenkins, who shares the Scholar-Athlete honor with Louisville's Nicolas Albiero, who notched seven All-America honors this season, finishing third in the 200 backstroke, sixth in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 100 backstroke.
Named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second straight season, Down-Jenkins was a CSCAA First-Team All-American in both springboard events. The senior from Wellington, New Zealand, placed sixth in the 3-meter event and eighth in the 1-meter at the NCAA Championships. At the ACC Championships, he won the 1-meter championship and was the runner-up in the 3-meter event. He is majoring in exercise and sport science at UNC.
He represented his native New Zealand in the 2020 Summer Games in Beijing.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
