Swimming Wraps Up Weekend At US Nationals

CHAPEL HILL – Members of the University of North Carolina swimming team wrapped up competition at USA Swimming's 2022 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships in Irvine, Calif., over the weekend.
Grace Countie, Sophie Lindner, and Skyler Smith each advanced to the finals in multiple events.
Countie and Smith each advanced in the 50-meter freestyle with Countie finishing seventh in the A final (25.10) and Smith placing eighth in the D final (27.02).
Smith claimed first place in the D final of the 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.39) and later finished sixth in the C final of the 200-meter breaststroke (2:35.41)
Countie captured eighth place in the 100-meter backstroke B final. She posted personal best times in the 50-meter free and the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.39)
Lindner posted a UNC record time of 2:11.30 on her way capturing first place in the B final of the 200-meter backstroke. She qualified for the A final in the 100-meter backstroke and finished in eighth place with a personal best mark (1:01.76).
Ellie VanNote earned a first-place finish in the C final of the 100-meter butterfly with a personal-best time of 59.67.
Greer Pattison finished 44 in the women's 100-meter backstroke, while Mateja Milovanovic and Noah Rutberg ranked among the top 50 in the men's 100 and 200-meter backstroke. Rutberg posted his personal best time in the 100-meter backstroke (56.77) as did Milovanic in the 200-meter backstroke.
Boyd Poelke finished among the top 50 in the men's 100 and 200-meter butterfly.
