VB Falls To Miami In Four

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Carolina volleyball team (7-6, 1-3 ACC) fell to Miami in four sets on Sunday afternoon in the Knight Sports Complex.
The Tar Heels were led offensively by a career-best 18 kills from freshman outside hitter Safi Hampton in her first career start, while graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster contributed 16 herself.
Sophomore setter Anita Babic quarterbacked the offense with 35 assists, while freshman middle blocker Sydney Nolan, in her second start of the season, had a team-best five blocks.
Carolina won the battle with Miami at the service line with 9 aces, led by three apiece from Zoe Behrendt and Marissa Meyerhoefer, but the Tar Heels also had 11 service errors. The two teams combined for 19 service errors in the match.
After the first three sets were lopsided, 25-17 (Miami), 25-16 (UNC) and 25-13 (Miami), the fourth set was a tight battle with six ties and four lead changes. The Tar Heels staved off a Miami match point but was unable to take advantage of their own set point.
Up next, the Tar Heels return to Carmichael on Oct. 6 to host Louisville.
