Men's Lacrosse Duo Named Scholar All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's lacrosse tandem of Andrew Tyeryar and Matt Wright were named to the 2023 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America list, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a senior in academic standing and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The member must also have received All-America or All-Conference honors for their achievements on the field.
A management and society major from Falls Church, Va., Tyeryar appeared in all 14 games this past spring for the Tar Heels. The UNC team leader with 169 faceoffs won and 87 groundballs collected, Tyeryar won a season best 20 faceoffs and added a single-game program record 16 groundballs against ACC foe Syracuse earlier this season. In addition to the academic honors today, Tyeryar was named to the All-ACC Academic Team last week.
An exercise and sport science student from Oakville, Ontario, Wright saw time in all 14 games this past campaign. The fourth-year long-stick midfielder collected 27 groundballs and caused nine turnovers on the year for the Tar Heels. In addition to the academic recognition from the USILA, Wright was named to the All-ACC Academic Team on three occasions during his time in Chapel Hill.
In addition to the individual honors handed out by the USILA, the men's lacrosse team was one of 37 programs at the Division I level to be honored with the Team Academic Award. To be eligible for the award, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
