ALBANY, N.Y. - The 2023 Premier Lacrosse League season kicked off in Albany, N.Y. this past weekend, with nine former North Carolina men's lacrosse players seeing action across the weekend's four games at Tom & Mary Case Stadium on the campus of UAlbany.
June 3 - Atlas vs. Redwoods
The lone Tar Heel player in the matchup, attackman Chris Gray scored one of the top goals from the weekend to kickstart his 2023 campaign, also adding an assist for the Atlas.
June 3 - Cannons vs. Archers
After signing with Cannons LC and reuniting on the field with his father, former UNC assistant coach and Cannons LC head coach Brian Holman, Marcus Holman stuffed the stat sheet in his team debut, scoring two one-point goals, one two-point goal, handing out an assist and collecting three groundballs. At the faceoff X, Stephen Kelly won eight faceoffs, added five groundballs and caused one turnover. On the other side, in his professional lacrosse debut, Connor Maher found the back of the net in the first half, as well as scooping up three groundballs.
June 4 - Chaos vs. Waterdogs
The defending champion Waterdogs and Zac Tucci began their title defense on the winning side, as Tucci added three groundballs and one caused turnover. On the other side for the Chaos, the club with a league leading four men's lacrosse alumni, Will Perry found the back of the net in for the club's first score of the year. On the defensive side, Will Bowen and Jack Rowlett combined for four caused turnovers and six groundballs.
June 4 - Chrome vs. Whipsnakes
Rounding out the weekend, midfielder Justin Anderson's four goals helped lead the Chrome to victory beginning the year. Anderson's four one-point goals were tied for the second most by a player on the weekend.
