Pro Heels: NWSL Week 19 Roundup

Several teams were back in action last week during the 2024 National Women's Soccer League season for NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup matches. The NWSL regular season will resume on August 23 as the league is on pause for an international break.
The weekend was highlighted by Ally Sentnor being named NWSL Player of the Month and NWSL Rookie of the Month, becoming just the second player to sweep both awards in the same month.
Bay FC

King was also recently named to the United States U-20 National Team which will play in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. She'll join former Tar Heel teammates Ally Sentnor (Utah Royals) and Maddie Dahlien (UNC junior) on the U.S. roster.

NJ/NY Gotham FC advanced to the championship game of the inaugural NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup after a 1-0 win over Angel City FC. Bell started the match and logged a full game.
Dunn had been on international duty to represent the United States in her third Olympic Games in France. She helped Team USA win the gold medal for the fifth time in USWNT history. Dunn had the game-winning assist in the quarterfinals. This is her second Olympic medal in her third Games; She also earned bronze in 2021.

North Carolina Courage suffered a 2-0 loss to Kansas City Current in the semifinals of the inaugural NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup. Pinto subbed in during the 77th minute. The Courage went undefeated in group play to win Group E.
Dorsey, who was drafted with the No. 40 overall pick, was placed on loan to Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League through 2024. She will be reunited with former UNC teammate Sam Meza who was also loaned to Dallas Trinity FC by Seattle Reign.

Meza, who was drafted with the No. 17 overall pick, was placed on loan to Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League through 2024. She will be reunited with former UNC teammate Julia Dorsey who was also loaned to Dallas Trinity FC by NC Courage.

Despite not having a match this week, Sentnor made headlines after earning NWSL Player of the Month and NWSL Rookie of the Month honors. She's only the second player in league history to sweep both awards in the same month.
During the month of July, Sentnor scored three goals in three matches and added one assist in 265 minutes. She recorded 14 shots, seven on target, and added four tackles won and eight successful take-ons in July enroute to helping the Royals win Group A of the NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup.
Sentnor, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft, is in contention for NWSL Rookie of the Year. She leads the Utah Royals with five goals this year.
