VB Suffers First Loss Of The Season In 3-0 Loss At South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Carolina volleyball team (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to South Carolina (4-1) in straight sets (25-18, 28-26, 25-16) in the Carolina Volleyball Center.

The Tar Heels struggled at the service line, committing 12 service errors as a team. Carolina was outhit .173 to .319, but matched the Gamecocks with nine blocks.

Senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster tallied her third double-digit performance of the season, racking up a team-best 13 kills on .464 hitting with six digs and an ace.

Sophomore setter Zoe Behrendt racked up 20 assists, combining with graduate setter Taylor Eisert (13) for 33 of Carolina's 39 assists.

Redshirt sophomore opposite Chelsea Thorpe was the Tar Heels' best blocker, racking up four block assists and a solo stuff.

Up next, the Tar Heels hit the road for the second weekend in a row, heading to Manhattan, Kan., for The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Classic hosted by Kansas State.

Carolina will face Lipscomb on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Morgan Family Arena.
