Cellucci Tabbed ACC Defensive Player Of The Week
February 18, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - North Carolina defenseman Chase Cellucci has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the first for the Tar Heels' freshman, as Cellucci joined goalkeeper Michael Gianforcaro in back-to-back defensive weekly recognition from the league.
During the win over Stony Brook, the Chadds Ford, Pa. product recorded five caused turnovers and four ground balls, as the Tar Heel defense allowed just four goals in the victory. Cellucci became the third Tar Heel defenseman in the past five seasons to finish with five caused turnovers in a single-game, joining Will Bowen (2021) and Peter Thomann (2024).
Cellucci is part of the Carolina defensive unit which ranks third nationally in scoring defense (5.0 goals/game), starting the season 2-0 for the 12th-straight season.
Up next, the Tar Heels travel to No. 4 Johns Hopkins on Saturday at Noon.
