Breaststroke, 6-4, Cape Town, South Africa
Career Best Times: 52.42 in the 100-yard breaststroke; 1:54.96 in the 200-yard breaststroke; 19.97 in the 50-yard freestyle; 27.90 in the 50-meter breaststroke; 1:02.02 in the 100-meter breaststroke.
General: Last summer, he set University long course records in the 50-meter breaststroke (27.90) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:02.02) at the YCF Summer Solstice Invitational…in short course events, he is the Tar Heel school record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke at 52.42, while ranking second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 1:54.96 and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle at 19.97 seconds.
Prior to Carolina: Native of Cape Town, South Africa who graduated in spring 2016 from Indian River State College in Florida and transferred to Carolina in fall of 2016…coached by Sion Brinn at IRSC…four-time NJCAA record holder.
2016-17: Placed 21st in the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:54.96…was 26th in the NCAA meet in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.83…also swam the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships…at the 2017 ACC Championships, he placed seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1:55.67 and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 53.19…he also swam to a 19th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a career best 19.97… placed 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke at December 2016 AT&T U.S. Swimming winter nationals…at the same meet, he placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.40 and also took home 15th place in the 50-yard freestyle (20.44)…captured third place in the 200-yard breaststroke and fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke at 2016 GAC Invitational while also taking 15th in the 50-yard freestyle.
2015-16: Named National Junior College Student-Athlete of the Year for all sports after his sophomore year at Indian River State College… as a sophomore at the NJCAA Championships, he captured national championships in the 50-yard breaststroke (24.20), the 100-yard breaststroke (52.57), the 200-yard individual medley (1:48.00) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:56.01)…was also a member of four national championship winning relay squads.
2014-15: As a freshman at IRSC, he won National Junior College Athletic Association individual championships in the 100-yard breaststroke at 54.48 and in the 200-yard breaststroke at 1:58.67 while finishing as the runner-up in the 50 free at 20.39…he also swam on four relays that took national titles.
Prep: In his native South Africa, he attended Rondebosch Boys’ High School in Cape Town, South Africa…was the high school swimmer of the year from 2012-15…outstanding swimmer, water polo player and field hockey player…completed 24 hours of community service at Sunfield Homes, a center for intellectually disabled students.
Club: Member of Aqua Sharks Swimming Club…Western Cape Top FINA points scorer in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
