Redshirt Junior Season (2024)
2024 National Champion • Played in 26 games, starting 25 of them • Earned her 50th career start vs. #1 Duke in the ACC Semifinals • Finished the year with one goal and one assist for three points • Scored her first collegiate goal vs. Clemson • Dished out an assist vs. #12 Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament First Round • Helped anchor a back line which limited opponents to 8.0 shots per game and 3.8 shots on goal per game, and only conceded one goal throughout the NCAA Tournament with zero goals allowed in the College Cup • Logged 2,144 minutes with 19 games of a full 90+ • Ranked fifth on the team in minutes • Played all but eight minutes of UNC’s six NCAA Tournament games, including every minute of the final five matches • Took 19 shots with six on target.
Redshirt Sophomore Season (2023)
Played in 22 matches, earning a starting role in 21 • Logged 1,444 minutes to rank sixth on the team • Logged a full 90 minutes in five matches, highlighted by a career-high 110 minutes vs. Pitt in the first round of the ACC Tournament • Finished the year with three assists • Picked up her first career points off an assist vs. Cal in the home opener • Also dished out an assist at Duke • Assisted the game-winning goal vs. Alabama in the second round of the NCAA Tournament • Attempted seven shots, including two on target • Staple on UNC’s defense that allowed only 7.4 shots per game and held 20 of its 23 opponents to 10 shots or fewer • Helped keep Alabama and Texas Tech without a shot on goal during consecutive NCAA Tournament games • Played in six matches where UNC’s back line held their opponents shotless during an entire half • Carolina conceded only eight goals during ACC play, which led the conference ... Sophomore Season (2022)
Played in 23 matches and logged 922 minutes • Started seven matches, including the final five of the NCAA Tournament • On the pitch for the final 290 minutes of the season (90 at Notre Dame, 90 vs. Florida State, 110 vs. UCLA) • Took four total shots, including three against Baylor • Named to the ACC All-Academic Team • Selected to the ACC All-Academic Team.
Freshman Season (2021)
Started both matches she played, logging 143 total minutes • Recorded her lone assist of the year against Washington, playing 78 minutes against the Huskies • Took her only shot of the season against Arkansas, getting 65 minutes of playing time.
High School/Club
Attended Ramapo High School in New Jersey • Played one season at Ramapo under the direction of Sarah Francini • Earned sectional recognition as well as First Team All-Freedom Division, First Team All-State, First Team All-County and First Team All-Conference honors • Named to preseason All-America and all-state lists as a junior • Volunteered with Buddy Baseball where she served as a “buddy” for mentally and physically handicapped children • Served as a soccer mentor to young girls in her community • Sponsored a child from Roberto Clemente Elementary School each year where she gave gifts and chaperoned during her High School Holiday Festival • Played club soccer for STA in Morris Plains, New Jersey • Served as team captain at STA and helped guide it to a No. 1 ranking prior to the 2018 playoffs • Participated in the U.S. Women’s Youth National Team regional camp • Was added to the U.S. U-19 Women's National Team pool in 2021.

Emerson Mackenzie Elgin is the daughter of Johanna and Ernest Elgin • Mother ran track at the United States Military Academy • Father played soccer at Queens College • Has three brothers: Ern, Grant and Cole • Oldest brother, Ern, played club rugby at Villanova • Middle brother, Grant, played soccer at Northeastern where he was captain his senior year • Youngest brother, Cole, played soccer at Endicott • Birthday is March 21 • Majoring in exercise and sport science with a minor in data science.
Why Carolina?
I chose UNC because of the amazing soccer program run by Coach Anson Dorrance and his staff as well as the excellent academics UNC offers. I also feel right at home every time I am on the campus.
