Four Men's Lacrosse Players Named Preseason All-Americas

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. - Four Tar Heels have been named preseason All-America selections prior to the 2001 season by Face-Off Yearbook.
Senior attackman Jeff Sonke was named to the first team, senior defenseman Bobby Gormsen was named third team and sophomore midfielder Austin Garrison and senior midfielder Mac Hammer were named honorable mention All-Americas by the Yearbook.
Defending NCAA champion Syracuse led all teams were six first team All-America selections.
Sonke led the Tar Heels in scoring on last year's 8-6 UNC squad with 49 points. The Birmingham, Mich. native had a team-leading 33 goals and added 16 assists and 34 ground balls.
Gormsen was a defensive mainstay on the Tar Heels' 2000 unit. starting 12 games and leading Carolina with 60 takeaways. He also had 52 ground balls on the season.
oth Garrison and Hammer had solid 2000 seasons for Carolina. Garrison was Carolina's fourth-leading scorer in 2000 with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists. Hammer has 12 goals and three assists for UNC last year, had 62 ground balls, 35 takeaways and won 57 faceoffs.
