Carolina Men's Golf Team Improves To Finish In Eighth Place At Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The University of North Carolina men's golf team carded an eighth-place finish of 851 in the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational. The team played two rounds Saturday and finished with a ninth-place score of 568, then added 283 today to end play 13 strokes under-par and 31 strokes behind the top-finishing Augusta State Jaguars.
Augusta State beat out Clemson with a 44-under-par score of 820. Clemson led the tournament Saturday at 24-under 552, but posted a 270 final round to end with a final score of 822. Wake Forest and Oklahoma State tied for third finishing with team totals of 25-under 829.
Augusta State's Oliver Wilson and Clemson's D.J. Trahan both carded a tournament course record of 64. But Wilson had the advantage over Trahan and finished in first place with a 17-under 199. Trahan, who had been tied for fifth, ended the tournament in second place with a 15-under par score of 201. James Heath of Augusta State rounded out the top three posting a 13-under 203.
Tar Heel junior Dustin Bray tied for 11th place at seven-under 209 adding a third-round score of 69 to his first-day total of 140. Senior Ramon escansa finished at three-under 213 and tied for 28th after carding a 72, 71 and 70. Junior Richard Treis improved from a tie at 40th to finish tied for 28th with a final score of 213 after shooting a 69 in the final round. Senior Jeremy Elliott, playing as an unattached individual, shot 70, 71 and 75, tying him for 42nd place. Elliott's score does not count toward the team total.
Freshman Kevin Silva ended in a tie for 64th with a three-day total of 220. Senior Bob Cherry tied for 83rd at 11-over 227 after his rounds of 71, 80 and 76.
The 54-hole event is being played at the Forest Hills Golf Club, a par 72, 6,875-yard course.
