Carolina Ranked No. 7 In Preseason Face-off Magazine/Inside Lacrosse Poll

BALTIMORE, MD. - The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team is ranked No. 7 in the 2005 Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse preseason coaches' poll. The poll was compiled from a survey of 56 NCAA Division I coaches and announced last week.
In addition, six UNC players were named to the preseason All-America teams named by Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse. The Tar Heels had two players named to the first team with senior attackman Jed Prossner (Easton Md.) and senior midfielder Bryant Will (Phoenix, Md.) tapped for the top team. Junior defenseman Stephen McElduff (Yorktown, N.Y.) was named to the second-team preseason All-America team while senior attackman Mike McCall (Yorktown, N.Y.), senior midfielder Lance Zimmerman (Cockeysville, Md.) and senior goalkeeper Paul Spellman (Cockeysville, Md.) were all named honorable mention.
The Tar Heels were 10-5 last year and they reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. Carolina fell to top-seeded Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
Johns Hopkins is the preseason favorite in this year's Face-Off Magazine/Inside Lacrosse Poll with 1370 total points and 35 first place votes while defending NCAA champion Syracuse is second with 1309 points and 19 first place votes. Princeton is third with 1207 points, Navy fourth with 1195 points, Maryland fifth with 1177 points, Georgetown sixth with 1066 points, North Carolina seventh with 1011 points, Virginia eighth with 1007 points, Cornell ninth with 818 points and Notre Dame 10th with 746 points.
UNC will play six of the other Top 10 teams during their 2005 regular season with games against No. 1 Johns Hopkins, No. 4 Navy, No. 5 Maryland, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Cornell and No. 10 Notre Dame on tap. UNC also has games in the coming year against preseason No. 13 Duke, No. 24 Denver and No. 25 Hofstra.
