
Eric Mohr Named Hardee's Student-Athlete Of The Week

Eric Mohr won a pair of individual events and was the only individual multiple event winner as the Tar Heel men's swimming and diving team posted a 154-87 victory over NC State. Mohr is the Hardee's Student-Athlete of the Week for January 31-February 6, 2005. A senior tri-captain from Mequon, Wis., Mohr won both of his events in season best times, going 1:50.20 to win the 200-yard backstroke and then clocking 1:52.77 to capture the 200-yard individual medley. The win over the Wolfpack helped UNC cap a 10-2 season, recording its best overall record since 1998-99 when the Tar Heels were also 10-2. Carolina finished 5-1 in the ACC, it best league mark since the 1997-98 campaign when UNC went 5-0.

In UNC's only game last week, Larkins scored a career-high 24 points as the Tar Heels defeated Clemson 99-55. Larkins also had team highs for rebounds (7) and steals (6) in the win. On the season, she is averaging a team-best 15.6 points per game and leads the ACC in field goal percentage, shooting .640. After hitting all eight of her free throw attempts against the Lady Tigers, Larkins is now .848 from the line, third in the ACC.
MEN'S TENNIS

Brad Pomeroy helped North Carolina bounced back from a two-match losing streak by leading UNC to wins over Campbell 6-1 and James Madison 7-0. Pomeroy, a junior from Asheville, N.C., swept both of his singles matches in the February 5 day-night doubleheader in straight sets, beating Campbell's Florent Wilpotte 7-5, 7-5 and downing Jesse Tarr of JMU 6-1, 6-1. Pomeroy combined with Geoff Boyd to win their doubles match in both contests, extending their doubles record to 15-3 during 2004-05. Pomeroy and Boyd are currently No. 9 in the national doubles rankings.
MEN'S LACROSSE

Carolina's men's lacrosse team swept three scrimmage games on February 5 against Greensboro College, Lynchburg and Limestone. Ryan Blair was the chief offensive force on the day for the Tar Heels as the junior attackman racked up five goals and an assist against Lynchburg in a 14-2 win and then scored twice more against the Limestone Saints.
GYMNASTICS

Senior Olivia Trusty led the Tar Heels to improve their 2005 record to 11-0 in another close call Saturday at the 10th annual Governor's Cup. Trusty captured her second all-around title of the season as Carolina defeated second place NC State by only two-tenths of a point. The school record-holder on uneven bars, Trusty earned a season-high 9.90, the highest bars score of any Carolina gymnast this year, to win the event. She also tied for second on floor exercise, third on vault and fourth on balance beam to lead her to a 39.15 all-around total.
TRACK AND FIELD
Erin Donohue, Sr.

Donohue turned in a pair of impressive performances at this weekend's New alance Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City. On Friday, Donohue was a member of the Carolina distance medley relay team that finished second to Villanova with a time of 11:05.31. That time is the tenth best DMR in collegiate history, and Donohue has now been a member of three of those top 10 relay teams. On Saturday, Donohue returned to the track and won the women's mile in 4:40.38, her personal best in the event.
MEN'S BASKETBALL

Led all scorers with 20 points and had five rebounds in the 95-71 win over NC State. He had 13 points and eight rebounds in the 81-60 win at Florida State. Williams hit three first-half three-pointers against the Wolfpack as UNC built a 19-point lead. The freshman went 13 for 15 from the free throw line in the two games.. He scored his 20 points in 23 minutes against NC State.
WRESTLING
Evan Sola

Sola went 3-0 on the week, including two pins, to improve to 24-3 overall and 11-0 in duals this season. He opened the week with a pin of Duke's Bryan Gibson in 4:31 to lead the Tar Heels to a 28-10 victory over the rival Blue Devils and a point towards the Carlyle Cup. Sola then pinned Drexel's Zach Makovsky in 4:08 in UNC's 21-10 loss to the Dragons and won an 8-2 decision over Penn's Mike Silengo in the Tar Heels' 24-10 loss to the 25th-ranked Quakers. A winner of 12 straight matches, Sola now has a career-best nine pins this season.
