GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman Dan O'Connor registered two NCAA `B' qualifying times and has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week.
O'Connor recorded four career-best times in a dual meet win over arch-rival Duke and in the College Cup Invitational in Durham, N.C., over the weekend. The Syracuse, N.Y., native broke the Duke pool record Sunday in both the 1000-yard and 1650-yard freestyle at 9:06.26 and 15:05.98, respectively. Those times are also good for third and fourth in UNC history in those events, while his cut in the 1650 is also a NCAA `B' qualifier. In the dual meet against Duke Friday, O'Connor won the 500 free in 4:23.62, another `B' cut and almost four seconds better than his previous career best.
The ACC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week will be announced by 5 p.m. each Tuesday throughout the season. For more information on ACC Swimming & Diving visit http://www.theacc.com/sports/c-swim/acc-c-swim-body.html.
