General: Three-year letterman...this past summer he reached the finals of three-meter diving at 2011 U.S. Nationals...earned a spot in next summer's Olympic Trials and thus became the first diver in school history to merit an Olympic Trials qualifying spot...is one of the top divers in the ACC...holds the school records on all three boards (1-meter, 3-meter, 10-meter)...set both springboard records at the 2009 Gamecock Invitational and the platform mark at the 2011 ACC Championships.
U.S. Diving Highlights: Excelled at the 2010 U.S. Diving senior zone meet...placed first there in three-meter diving and copped a third-place finish on the one-meter board...was a finalist on the three-meter board at 2011 U.S. Nationals, winning a qualifying spot for the 2011 Olympic Trials...placed 12th in the semifinals of that event.
2010-11 (Junior): Named to ACC Academic Honor Roll and fall 2010 Dean's List...was Diver of the Meet at the 2011 Dallas Classic...won both the one-meter and three-meter events there and subsequently was named the ACC Performer of the Week on January 18...merited the 2011 David McInnis Diving Award from the UNC team...at the 2011 NCAA Zone Diving Championships he placed sixth on the three-meter board and was seventh in 10-meter platform diving...swept both boards in dual meets versus ECU, Clemson, Kentucky and Georgia...scored in three events at the 2011 ACC Cham-pionships...was eighth on the platform with 318.00 points, ninth in one-meter diving with 336.35 points and 11th in three-meter diving with 352.20 points.
2009-10 (Sophomore): Had a career type meet at the 2009 Gamecock Invitational...won both boards there and set University records on both...scored 447.50 points on the three-meter and 367.45 on the one-meter.
2008-09 (Freshman): Achieved his top scores of the season in the one- and three-meter events at the Gamecock Invitational...his top platform perfor-mance of the season came at the ACC Championships...was a finalist in three-meter diving at the ACC meet, finishing eighth.
2007-08: Redshirted during his true freshman season.
Prep: Graduated from Darien High School in 2007...a three-time high school All-America...four-time Connecticut high school diving champion...YMCA national diving champion in the one-meter and three-meter springboard events...competed in East Nationals and was a finalist in Speedo Nationals.
Personal: Full name is David James MacDonald...son of Tom and Deb MacDonald...was born February 3, 1989 in Minneapolis, Minn. ...has one sister...communication studies major.

Section #1: Swimming & Diving
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel diver is that the team is like a family.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Lawrence is: there are too many wonderful aspects so choosing just one isn't possible.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is my mechanics.
4. My greatest strength as a diver is the ability to push myself.
Section #2: Hobbies & Interests
1. Away from the pool and academic pursuits I like to spend time maxing, relaxing, and acting a fool.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in da Hood.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be football.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Bob Marley or the Grateful Dead before Pigpen died.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is I like to read and follow the news.

1. After a big meet, I'd like to eat at a buffet spread that included pancakes, milkshakes, cheeseburgers, and a blooming onion.
2. My favorite beverage is seltzer water.
3. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is [B]Ski's The Tortilla Wrap Grill.
4. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is Cold Stone.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to go to Pangaea.
2. My most prized personal possession is my cellphone alarm.
