Dawson Reaches Final Of 10-Meter Platform
December 19, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of North Carolina junior women's diver Elissa Dawson is in fourth place after the semifinals of the women's 10-meter platform diving competition, highlighting Sunday's competition at the USA Diving Winter National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
"Elissa dove wonderfully today. Her first list was a little shaky," says Tar Heel diving coach Abel Sanchez. "Her second list was confident and had one dive she was shaky on. She's moving into finals sitting in fourth. All scores are cumulative. I think this will give her a confident booster for tomorrow for her 3 meter event. Elissa and Maria (Lohman) both compete tomorrow. Jack (Nyquist) ended up 14th in a tough group of divers and Greg (Duncan) ended up 6th. Greg moves into finals."
A total of 13 women competed in the women's 10-meter platform with 12 advancing to the finals.
Incoming freshman Greg Duncan and senior Jack Nyquist also competed for the Tar Heels Sunday in the men's three-meter diving competition. Duncan was sixth and Nyquist 14th in the 25-man field. Nyquist missed a spot in the finals of the event by just one spot while Duncan's sixth-place finish earned him a spot in the finals.
Women's platform and men's three-meter finals are scheduled for Tuesday.
The USA Diving Winter National Championships continue through Wednesday, December 21. Monday's competition begins at 10 a.m. and features preliminaries and semifinals for women's 3-meter and men's 10-meter along with the men's 1-meter final.
