Tar Heels Complete Action On Second Day of NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - Five participants from the University of North Carolina men's swimming and diving team were in action Friday at the NCAA Division I Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.
While no Tar Heel was able to advance to the finals on Friday, several turned in solid finishes and many were just off their career best times in their respective events.
After three days of the Championships, the Tar Heels are in 33rd place with 6 points.
Both Henry Campbell and Michael Meyer were just shy of qualifying for the consolation finals in the 400-yard individual medley. Campbell finished 17th in a time of 3:43.91 while Meyer was 20th in a clocking of 3:44.37.
In the 200-yard freestyle senior Jorden Merrilees placed 27th with a time of 1:34.39, just .21 of a second off his career best.
Junior Craig Emslie was just four-tenths off his record time in the 100-yard breaststroke as he placed 26th with a time of 52.83.
All-America and All-ACC diver Jack Nyquist competed in the final event of his collegiate career as he placed 27th in three-meter diving with 323.35 points.
Action will continue in the Championships on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
UNC has five entries on Friday with Henry Campbell in the 1650-yard freestyle, Jorden Merrilees in the 200-yard backstroke, Craig Emslie in the 200-yard breaststroke, Michael Meyer in the 200-yard butterfly and Bryan Allen in 10-meter platform diving.
