Swim & Dive Have Strong Showing On Day Three Of ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC men recorded four top 8 finishes and moved into sixth place while the Carolina women maintained a hold on fifth place at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday.

NC State holds a commanding lead on the men's side with 812.5 points followed by Notre Dame in second with 559.5 points. Carolina (380) sits six points behind Florida State for fifth place. The Virginia women (846.5) have a comfortable 163.5 point lead over second place Louisville (683). The UNC women have 401.5 points and sit 32 points behind fourth place Duke (433.5).

Sophomore Louis Dramm posted the Tar Heels' best finish of the night, coming in fifth in the men's 400 IM championship finals with an NCAA B qualifying time of 3:44.25. Freshman Ben Delmar (3:46.10) placed second in the 400 IM B finals and finished 10th overall.

Senior Boyd Poelke (45.46) placed seventh in the men's 100 fly championship race as did senior Patrick Hussey (1:33.12) in the 200 freestyle championship event.

Freshman diver Rodolfo Vazquez Montaño claimed the Tar Heels third seventh place finish of the night with a score of 349.95 in the 3-meter springboard competition. Senior Alex Hart finished ninth with a final tally of 320.65.

A foursome of Carolina women earned top 16 finishes starting with Ava Muzzy's third place 400 IM B final finish with an NCAA B time of 4:14.44. Aislin Farris (4:18.87) placed seventh in the event.

Senior Ellie VanNote (52.08) took third place in the women's 100 fly B final and Georgia Nel (1:45.94) came home fourth in the 200 freestyle B final.

The championships continue Friday at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary events, while the women's team diving event begins at 4 p.m., and Friday's finals events start at 5:30 p.m. They will air live on ACC Network Extra and are also accessible via the WatchESPN app.Â
