General--The only member of the 1999 United States Women's World Cup Team who returns to college this season...played a valuable reserve role this past summer as a member of that team as it regained the world championship...one of the nation's top defenders...a preseason All-America selection this year as named by Soccer Buzz, Soccer America and College Soccer Weekly Online...three-year letter winner at Carolina...started part-time in the midfield as a freshman and has started on defense each of the past two seasons...a veteran member of the U.S. Women's National Team...besides her play with the World Cup Team earlier this year, she also trained and played with the United States Women's National Team during the Victory Tour presented by Nike in the spring of 1997...was also selected for the 1997 United States under-21 women's national team which played in the Nordic Cup in Denmark, August 4-8, 1997...also played for the U.S. under-21 women's national team in the 1998 Nordic Cup in Holland...a 1997 and 1998 preseason All-America selection by Soccer Buzz...was one of the most improved players in the nation in 1997 as a sophomore...followed that up with a brilliant junior year...has a twin sister, Ronnie, who plays at Stanford and was also on the 1997 and 1998 U.S. women's under-20 national team rosters with Lorrie...Ronnie is starting her senior year at Stanford as a three-year returning starter for the Cardinal.

1997 Season--Played in and started all 28 games for the Tar Heels...scored eight goals and had seven assists for 23 points...scored game-winning goals against California and Duke...scored her eight goals and seven assists in 15 different games...it was her goal early in the second half which tied up the national semifinal game against Santa Clara...was a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year Award...was named first team All-America by Soccer News, second team All-America by Soccer Times and third team All-America by Soccer Buzz...was named by Soccer News to its sophomore All-America Team...named to the 1997 NCAA Tournament All-Tournament Team...a 1997 first-team All-ACC selection...was named to the Soccer America Collegiate Team of the Week on September 23, 1997 and September 30, 1997...was named second-team All-Southeast Region by the NSCAA and first-team All-Southeast Region by Soccer News and Soccer Buzz...was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the 1997 Notre Dame adidas/Lady Footlocker Classic...was also named to the all-tournament team at UND as well as at the 1997 adidas/Eurosport Carolina Classic...named by Soccer News as the third best defender in the nation last season in its Elite 11 list.
1996 Season--Had an impressive freshman year for the Tar Heels...was an alternate member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team which won the gold medal in Atlanta, Ga....started the season as a starter in the midfield, but was switched in mid-year to a defensive position where she backed up two-year starter Amy Roberts...saw increased action down the stretch of the season during the ACC and NCAA Tournaments...Fair's switch to the backfield was one of the moves which really made the Tar Heels gel last season...played in 24 games last season and started 12 times...she had four assists and one back save during the season...was named a second-team All-America by Soccer News...was named by Soccer America to its All-Freshman Team...also made the Soccer News Freshman All-America Team and was first-team Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz...was also named by Soccer Buzz to its Southeast Region All-Freshman Team...was named to the All-Tournament Teams at both the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament...was also tapped by Soccer News for its All-NCAA Final Four Team...was named to 1996-97 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Prep--Regarded by many as the top recruit in the country coming out of high school in 1996...a U.S. National Team member since 1995....was an alternate on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team...a speedy, versatile, skillful and fast player who can play anywhere on the field...former U.S. under-20 national coach and Portland head coach Clive Charles called her, 'The complete package. She's a footballer.'..two-time Parade All-America selection...played high school varsity soccer for four years and club ball for six years with the Sunnyvale Roadrunners '78...ran track at Los Altos High School for two years, earning the team's MVP award in 1993...led soccer club team to a U-16 national championship in 1994...named NSCAA Umbro high school All-America twice...competed in U.S. Olympic Festival--'95 at Colorado Springs and was named to all-star team there...led high school team to state title and was named All-League in 1995...was the conference's top freshman, sophomore and junior players in successive seasons and then was the league's MVP as a senior.
Personal--Given name is Lorraine Ming Fair...daughter of May Fair...has a twin sister, Ronnie, who is a junior defender at Stanford...that is ironic because she says she is always asked if Tar Heel teammate Tiffany Roberts is either her sister or her twin...also has one brother...an avid grass volleyball player and mountain biker...won GPA award on high school soccer team all four years...also named to the honor roll each year...hobbies include snowboarding, playing the piano and lounging...favorite athletes include Michael Jordan and Paolo Maldini...plans to major in physics, chemistry or sport psychology...born August 5, 1978...is an Athletes Coming Together (ACT) mentor...biggest sports thrill was winning the national championship and going undefeated last year because she will always remember the wonderfully close knit nature of the team...majoring in communications...undecidedon career plans.
