General: A strong addition to the Tar Heels' sprint freestyle corps...also an excellent backstroker...the son of Tar Heel All-America Ken Ireland, Class of 1981.
Prep: Graduated from Coronado High School on June 10, 2010...swam for four years in high school as a 200 freestyler and 100 backstroker...was coached in high school by Randy Burgess...competed with his club team for three years, specializing in 50, 100 and 200 frees and 100 back...coached at the club level by Jeff Pease...three-time CIF San Diego 200 freestyle champion...two-time CIF San Diego All-Section Team member...an NISCA Academic All-America...San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team Captain in 2010 and team member in 2009.
Personal: Andrew Clark Ireland was born February 8, 1992 in San Diego, Calif. ...the son of Ken and Patti Ireland...stands 6-3 tall...has one sister, Heather, 20...plans to major in biology.

Section #1: Swimming & Diving
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel swimmer is following in my father's footsteps.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach DeSelm is that he's a great coach that facilitates improvement in all of his athletes.
3. My greatest strength as a swimmer is my competitive drive.
Section #2: Hobbies & Interests
1. Away from the pool and academics, I like to spend time wakeboarding and playing beach volleyball.
2. On a long bus trip, I'd like to watch The Mighty Ducks.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be football.
4. If I received free concert tickets via a radio or Internet promotion I would love to see the Killers.
Section #3: Food
1. After a big meet I'd love to see a buffet spread that included spaghetti and brisket.
2. My favorite beverage is chocolate milk.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is éclair cake made by my Grandma.
4. On my birthday, I'd love to be treated by my friends to dinner at Roy's.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I would go to colonial America so I could hang out with Benjamin Franklin.
2. My most prized personal possession is my Roman Coliseum ticket autographed by Cal Ripken Jr.

4. In a perfect world where making money was not a consideration my dream job would be a potter.
