Kaersten Meitz joined the North Carolina swimming and diving program in June of 2026 as an assistant swimming coach and the women’s recruiting coordinator. Meitz came to Chapel Hill after spending two seasons at Pitt.
While at Pitt, Meitz was part of a coaching staff that produced the two most successful seasons in modern program history. Working primarily with the distance group, she helped the Panthers women’s team to the highest finish in program history at the 2026 NCAA meet (T-16th), while leading the men’s team to its best finish in over 70 years (20th). The women also turned in their best result at the ACC Championships with a sixth-place finish.
Meitz began her coaching career at Washington St. in 2023, where she also worked primarily with the distance group.
A decorated competitor, Meitz was a four-time All-American in the 500-meter freestyle and the 1650 free at Purdue. She was a two-time Olympic Trials finalist in 2021 in the 400 and 800-meter freestyle and a four-time member of the U.S. National Team (2017-21). Meitz participated in two World University Games (2017, ’19) and earned two gold medals (400 free, 800 free relay) and a silver (800 free relay). She also spent the 2021 season swimming with the Toronto Titans in the International Swim League.
Meitz earned her bachelor’s degree in sales management from Purdue in 2018 and went on to secure her MBA from UW-Whitewater in 2022.
