
UNC Trails After First Day of Dual Meet at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - The North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams trail after their opening day efforts at the Minnesota Aquatics Center in dual meet against host Minnesota. The Tar Heels posted several personal best times on the opening day and senior Ryan Funderburk and sophomore Megan Steeves won individual events.
Funderburk took the three-meter diving with 357.98 points and Steeves took the 50-yard freestyle in 23.37 seconds, just one-tenth of a second off her personal best time.
In the men's 1000-yard freestyle, Carolina had two swimmers post their career best times. Joe Kinderwater took second with a personal best 9:11.20 which now ranks him seventh all-time on the Tar Heel depth chart. Tyler Harris claimed third place with a career best 9:14.36.
Senior Kelsey Morrissy had a brilliant swim in the 200-yard freestyle in finishing second. Morrissy clocked a 1:48.90, shattering her old mark of 1:51.40. She is now tied for 10th all-time at Carolina in the event.
Other personal bests for the Tar Heels included:
Women's 1000-yard freestyle: Ashley Miller, 10:07.76
Women's 100-yard backstroke: Ashley Howard, 56.64
Men's 100-yard breaststroke: Chandler Thomas, 1:00.15 (old personal best, 1:02.79)
Flynn Jones, 1:00.84
Women's 200-yard individual medley: Aubrette Biegel, 2:06.99
