CollegeSwimming.com taps Tar Heel as swimmer of week
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – CollegeSwimming.com has honored the University of North Carolina's Caroline Baldwin (Westfield, N.J.) as this week's NCAA Division I national winner as its women's swimmer of the week.

Baldwin from UNC won the 50-yarrd and 100-yard freestyle events against Texas last Saturday and she now ranks third (50 free) and seventh (100 free) nationally in those two events during the 2017-18 school year to date.

Altogether, Baldwin had a spectacular meet against second-ranked Texas, winning the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles in season best times, both also NCAA "B" qualifying times. Baldwin won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.13, well ahead of Rebecca Millard of Texas who clocked in second at 22.89. Baldwin's time moves her into third place in the nation this year in the event.Â

Just a few minutes later, Baldwin won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 48.24, almost two seconds ahead of second place Rebecca Millard at 49.92. Baldwin moved into seventh nationally in the event with her winning time and she in the process broke the Koury Natatorium pool record of 48.58 set by Tennessee's Faith Johnson in 2014.

Baldwin also led off Carolina's 200-yard medley relay in 24.40 for the backstroke leg as the Tar Heels beat Texas in the event with a time of 1:39.07. UNC has won the 200-yard medley relay in all four dual meets this season. Baldwin's backstroke split was 24.40, well ahead of Texas' Claire Adams' split of 24.99 as the Tar Heels went on to win the relay by .15 of a second.Â

Baldwin also had the fastest split in the 100 free on the front end of the 400 freestyle relay in which Texas prevailed by just .13 of a second.
