Tar Heel Swimmers & Divers In Action In Next Two Weeks

U.S. Open begins August 2 in New York
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Coach Rich DeSelm's University of North Carolina men's and women's swimmers and coach Abel Sanchez's men's divers will be in action over the next two weeks in major national meets.

The U.S. Open Swimming Championships will feature 10 current Tar Heel swimmers training with the North Carolina Aquatic Club in Chapel Hill under the leadership of head coach Rich DeSelm and his assistant coaches Duncan Sherrard, Sean Quinn and Christy Garth. Two more NCAC coached swimmers will also be competing in the meet. They are Triangle based swimmers who swam at other universities but are being coached by DeSelm and his staff.

The U.S. Open Championships run from August 2-6 at Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. on Long Island.

Here are a list of NCAC/UNC's day-by-day entries in the event. All are UNC undergraduates except fro Will Macmillan who swims at Stanford but trains in Chapel Hill and Ashley Twichell who is a Duke alumna who lives in Apex, N.C. and trains in Chapel Hill. Entry times are listed for each swimmer for their various events.

Two days after the U.S. Open ends on Long Island, Tar Heel men's divers under the able leadership of coach Abel Sanchez will swing into action. Looming in the future for Carolina diving this summer is the 2017 U.S. Diving National Championships at Ohio State University's McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion from August 8-12. Complete meet details on that event can be found at this link.

Diving coach Abel Sanchez will have four Tar Heel divers competing in the meet. Junior Sean Burston is slated for the one-meter and three-meter springboard events. Sophomores Bryan Allen and Max Jenkins will compete on the 10-meter platform and freshman Greg Duncan is scheduled for the one-meter and three-meter springboard events.
