Women Move Up At The ACC Swimming & Diving Championships

ATLANTA – The North Carolina women's swimming and diving team moved into fourth place Friday night at the ACC Championships, while the men held on to their seventh place standing.
Virginia remained in first place on the women's side with 1028.5 points. NC State sits 35.5 points behind the Cavaliers in second place with 993 points followed by Louisville (787.5) in third and Carolina (553) in fourth.
NC State holds a sizeable lead on the men's side with 1128.5 points, nearly 200 points ahead of second place Louisville (935.5). Virginia Tech is in third place with 790, holding a 75-point lead over fourth-place Virginia for a spot on the podium.
It was another record-breaking night for the Carolina women's relay teams with Ellie VanNote, Lilly Higgs, Sophie Lindner, and Grace Countie combing to set the school record in the 400-medley relay. The foursome posted a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:30.87 to establish a new standard in the event at UNC, while also wining the bronze medal in the event.
Countie, Lindner and freshman Greer Pattison each qualified for the championship finals in the 100-yard backstroke, but none were able to earn a spot on the podium despite posting IV21 marks. Heidi Lowe and Olivia Nel recorded NCAA B times in the event.
Other ladies to post NCAA B qualifying marks included Higgs, Skyler Smith, Lexi Rudolph, and Kat Ward in the 100-yard breaststroke.
UNC sophomores Patrick Hussey and Boyd Poelke each posted a NCAA B qualifying time in the men's 200-yard butterfly as did Tucker Burhans and Alex Mays in the men's 100-yard backstroke.
The championships continue Saturday at 10 a.m. with preliminary events and conclude Saturday evening with finals events beginning at 6 p.m. They air live on ACC Network Extra and are accessible via the WatchESPN app. Direct links to the ACCNX feeds and live results are available at theACC.com.
