Swimming & Diving Sets Three School Records Friday At NC State

Raleigh, NC. – North Carolina swimming and diving dropped a close dual to NC State on Friday, Jan. 17, in the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center. The men's squad fell 165-134, and the women's team lost 170.5-129.5.
The men's 200-yard medley relay, consisting of Walker Davis, Ben Delmar, Boyd Poelke, and Louis Dramm (1:23.6), set a school record while also earning an "A Cut" to qualify for the national championship.
The women's 200-yard medley relay also posted an "A Cut" to qualify for the national championship. Greer Pattison, Skyler Smith, Elizabeth Sowards, and Georgia Nel posted a time of 1:35.01.
Skyler Smith and Ben Delmar swept the 100 and 200 breast events. Ben posted a time of 51.44 in the 100 and 1:51.84 in the 200, both of those times were a school record. Smith notched a quick time of 58.49 in the 100 and 2:08.85 in the 200.
The diving success of the Vázquez Montaño siblings continued as they both won the 1M and 3M. Aranza Vázquez Montaño (339.30) led the sweep of the top four spots in the 3M. Ellie Joyce (295.58), Sofia Knight (295.58) and Lanie Gutch (271.95).The 1M was more of the same for the women as Vázquez Montaño (315.60) took first, Gutch (310.65) took second, Ellie Joyce (276.53) in third, and Sophia Knight (265.80) rounded out the top four.
Rodolfo Vázquez Montaño (308.63) took first in the 1M, with Chris Booler (280.43) taking second. Vázquez Montaño (333.68) took first in the 3M, while Conrad Eck (274.20) and Booler (271.65) took third and fourth.
Next up: Carolina is hosting the UNC Invitational Feb. 6 through Feb. 8 in Chapel Hill, NC.
