Other Nominees:
Sophomore Laura Gerraughty won both the shot put and the hammer throw at the Raleigh Relays last weekend. A Nashua, N.H., native, she posted NCAA regional qualifying standards in both events while breaking her own school record in the outdoor shot put.
Gerraughty put the shot 59-9 1/2, the best of her Career, topping her previous own school outdoor record by more than two feet. She followed up this performance with a first-place throw of 198-9 in the hammer.
Women's Tennis
Senior Kate Pinchbeck won both her singles and doubles matches in leading
11th-ranked North Carolina to a 6-1 victory over No. 43 Florida State.
Pinchbeck, who is ranked 13th in the country, defeated No. 55 Anca
Dumitrescu at the top singles flight. Pinchbeck teamed with freshman Tanja
Markovic to win at the No. 3 doubles position, 9-7.
Softball - Jaclyn Holden, 1B, Fr.
Freshman first baseman Jaclyn Holden helped the Tar Heels set four school records this past week leading UNC to a 4-1 record. She went 5-for-5 against North Carolina A&T becoming the first Tar Heel to have five hits in one game. Holden ended the game with two doubles and one RBI. Against Appalachian State, Holden went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in the doubleheader as the Heels pushed their winning streak to 15 games (school record). The Santa Clarita, Calif., native finished the Tar Heel Invitational 1-for-6, with a home run against the ECU Pirates to end the week hitting .500, with eight hits, five runs scored, four RBIs, two doubles and two home runs.
