Women’s Lacrosse Fifth In Final IWLCA Poll To Conclude 2023 Season

The 2023 campaign has come to a close for the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team, which checked in at No. 5 in the final IWLCA/ILWomen and USA Lacrosse Magazine polls of the year. The season saw several standout performances, both by individual players and together as a team.

Season Highlights: Team
- Made its 24th overall – and 18th straight – NCAA Tournament appearance
- Advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the 23rd time in program history
- Earned a top-5 NCAA Tournament seed for the 14th consecutive year
- Reached the ACC Tournament title game for the seventh year in a row, and 16th time overall
- ACC semifinals victory marked the team’s 20th straight ACC Tournament win, extending the longest streak in event history
- Set new single-game team records with 19 assists and 41 points (22 goals/19 assists) against High Point on March 26
- Set a new program record for longest win streak at 29 from Feb. 12, 2022, to March 16, 2023
- Went 8-5 against top-25 teams, including two wins against top-five opponents
- Finished the season ranked No. 5 in the final IWLCA/ILWomen and USA Lacrosse Magazine polls

Season Highlights: Individual
- Emily Nalls was a top-25 nominee for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award and was named to the College Sports Communications Academic All-District At Large Team
- Caitlyn Wurzburger achieved her 200th career point on May 14, becoming the 13th Tar Heel to ever reach the milestone
- Wurzburger now ranks fourth all-time in UNC history with 94 career assists, while her team-leading 35 assists sits at ninth in the school record book for a single season
- 34 assists on the year from Reilly Casey ranks 10th for a single season in program history
- Totaling nine goals and 12 points during the ACC Tournament, the most of any league player, was Caroline Godine
- Alecia Nicholas was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 14
- Jenny Levy achieved her 400th career victory on March 16, just the sixth head coach in NCAA history to reach the threshold and the third in Division I
- Levy also earned her 100th career ACC victory, the first league coach to reach the milestone
- UNC’s win in the NCAA Second Round marked Levy’s 42nd NCAA Tournament win, moving to be tied for second all-time by a head coach

Among the Nation's Best
- UNC led the nation in clearing percentage at .940
- First in the ACC and sixth nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 8.43 goals per game
- Ranked 11th in the country with a 5.67 scoring margin
- Goalkeeper Alecia Nicholas finished the year ranked first in the ACC and seventh in the country with an 8.51 goals-against average
- Caitlyn Wurzburger capped off the season ranked second in the ACC and ninth in the country with a .597 shot percentage
