Richard Treis and Meaghan Francella won the 2003 ACC Men's and Women's Golf championships and are co-winners of the Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athletes of the Week for April 14-20.
All 28 members of the women's track and field team scored points, an unprecedented accomplishment, as the Tar Heels won the ACC outdoor track title for the 13th time in the last 16 seasons. The Carolina women's track team is the Carolina Waterscapes Team of the Week. The Tar Heels were led by two-event champions Shalane Flanagan and Laura Gerraughty. Flanagan set ACC meet records in the 1500 and 5000 meters, and broke the alltime ACC record (set in 1984) in the 1500 with a time of 4:13.05. Gerraughty set an ACC meet record in the hammer, won the shot put and was fourth in the discus.
Treis, a junior from Baden-Baden, Germany, captured the 2003 ACC Men1s Golf Individual Championship, the second consecutive Tar Heel to win the title as teammate Dustin Bray claimed the crown last year. Treis was among a trio of players who began the final round four strokes behind Wake Forest1s Bill Haas. But while Haas struggled with a four-over-par 76 in the final round, Treis caught fire on the final nine holes to jump out in front and claim a two-stroke victory over Haas. Treis carded five birdies and two bogies on the final nine holes on his way to a five-under 211 total. He birdied the 11th hole, bogied No. 12 before posting birdies at Nos. 14, 15, 16 and 18.
Francella, a junior from Port Chester, N.Y., captured the 2003 ACC Women1s Golf Individual Championship, the first Tar Heel to win the conference championship since 1992 when Debbie Doniger claimed the crown. Francella fired a pair of two-under-par 69s in the final two rounds and finished with a two-over 215 total to claim a one-stroke victory over Duke1s Elizabeth Janangelo and Wake Forest1s Nuria Clau.

Cleveland recorded his fifth multiple-homer game of the season when he homered twice against the Blue Devils on Sunday. The junior from Fairfax, Virginia now has 20 multiple-hit games on the season and is batting a remarkable .442. Cleveland leads Carolina in most offensive categories including home runs (14), RBIs (51) and runs (54).
