The top three teams, Virginia, Maryland and UNC all went under the previous pool record of 1:31.09 set in 2007 by Clemson.
"Tonight was a terrific session," said UNC head coach Rich DeSelm. "We had four girls in the 200 IM to match up with Virginia. Brodie's second place finish was fantastic and Rebecca Kane's 50 was great, only a hundredth off the school record for the second year."
"The 200-yard freestyle relay was a school record. It was very impressive that the girls could beat last year's record without the same fast suits," said DeSelm.
The meet will resume Friday morning at 11 a.m. for prelims of the 400-yard IM, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle as well as three-meter diving.
