Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Brown and Kenyon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolinas 15th-ranked men's swimming and diving team ran its dual-meet winning streak to seven Wednesday afternoon, easing past Brown University and Kenyon College at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium on the UNC campus.

In the tri-meet, UNC defeated Brown 165-132 and Kenyon 218-69. The Brown men defeated the Lords of Kenyon 199.5-87.5. UNC improved to 7-1 on the season with the two victories. The Tar Heels are undefeated since opening the season with a loss at sixth-ranked Georgia. Freshman Chris Helin was the standout swimmer for the Tar Heel men as he captured three individual event crowns, winning the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley.

The Carolina women bounced back from a loss at Clemson last Friday to sweep the Brown Bears and the Kenyon Ladies on Wednesday afternoon. The 18th-ranked Tar Heel women held off a splendid upset bid by Brown before escaping with a 142-138 win over the Bears. Carolina also defeated Kenyon 225-55. Brown went 1-1 on the day by whipping Kenyon 210-52 in a head-to-head battle. Carolina sophomore diver Holly Mills of Durham, N.C. and senior backstroker Kelsey Durking of Winter Park, Fla. were two-event winners for Coach Frank Comfort's team. Carolina was hurt in the meet by four disqualifications.

The Tar Heels will be off until they swim at the University of Virginia on Saturday, January 23.
